It’s Official: Teens Are Bored With Facebook: It’s about time the Internet got an old-age home. Facebook seems as good a place as any to sequester geezers.

The teen-girl Tumblr aesthetic differentiates itself from the prevalent nostalgia-induced reimagining of the archetypal lusty teenage dream. Rip-offs of that aesthetic are familiar staples of bubble-gum-pop culture. They hijack the notion of adolescence, attempting to reinstall it into adults who have already experienced it — the heightened emotions, the epic breakups, the popularity contests, the self-actualizing, the loss of virginity, the sugar-sweet feeling of falling in love again for the first time. American pop culture idealizes the adolescent experience, recreating it through nostalgia, hypersexualized female bodies and fleeting, sugary feelings.
So rather than the commodifying male gaze, teen girls now have to put up the the mealy-mouthed academic squint. Hard to say what’s worse.
To Stem Juvenile Robberies, Police Trail Youths Before the Crime: Cops are harassing at-risk teens to separate them from their shady friends and save them from a life of crime. If you ask me, this is the sort of shit that’s going to trick some kid into trusting the police and, maybe, get him killed. Also, they’re posing as pretty teen girls on Facebook to listen in on chatter. That seems a little dangerous to teen girls.
Google Has Replaced Your Grandparents’ Wisdom: I was alive for a while before Google and, God knows, I have a hard time recalling an era when young people listening raptly to their grandparent’s wisdom. If they want that, they can go to Facebook. Just avoid the teen girls. If they’re on Facebook, they’re a cop.
